SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Steve relocated to Atlanta two decades ago, where he became a pivotal figure in the prosthetics community. His journey into this field was deeply personal. In 2001, while walking through a fast-food restaurant’s parking lot in Buckhead for a business meeting, Steve was tragically struck by a vehicle and crushed between two cars. The driver, a young individual still learning to drive, mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. This catastrophic accident led to severe injuries, resulting in 13 surgeries over the course of a year in an attempt to save his right leg. Despite these efforts, complications persisted, leading to the difficult decision to undergo a below-knee amputation.

A former Division I athlete and captain of the Boston University basketball team, Steve’s athleticism was central to his identity. The loss of his limb was a devastating blow, but it ignited a new purpose within him. Determined to reclaim his active lifestyle, Steve immersed himself in rigorous training. Remarkably, just six months after being fitted with a prosthetic, he completed his first half-marathon. He went on to participate in triathlons and even returned to competitive basketball, achieving his goal of dunking again. These accomplishments were not just personal milestones but served as powerful symbols of hope and possibility for others facing similar challenges.

In 2015, channeling his personal experiences and challenges, Steve founded Shamrock Prosthetics, Inc. His vision was clear: to elevate the standard of patient care in the prosthetics industry by addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of recovery. Under his leadership, Shamrock Prosthetics introduced the “MindBODY Amputee Care” philosophy, emphasizing the importance of holistic healing. This approach ensured that patients received not only state-of-the-art prosthetic devices but also the emotional and psychological support essential for their reinvention.

Steve’s dedication and innovative approach garnered widespread recognition. In 2021, Shamrock Prosthetics received the National Service Provider/Vendor Comp Laude Award, presented by WorkCompCentral. The following year, the company was voted #1 Best of the Best in the DME Category by Workplace Health Magazine. In 2023, Steve was honored with the Bloom Excellence Award for Men Leading The Way in Workers Compensation.

Beyond his professional achievements, Steve was deeply involved in community initiatives. He drew inspiration from the United States military, leading him to create a custom challenge coin to commemorate Shamrock Prosthetics’ nine-year anniversary. This gesture underscored his appreciation for leadership, loyalty, and unity—values he instilled within his team. The anniversary celebration was further honored by a city proclamation from Brookhaven, Georgia, recognizing the company’s contributions to the community.

Steve’s story has been a source of inspiration for many. He shared his journey on various platforms, including a feature on “The Mindside” podcast, where he discussed the challenges he faced and the purpose he found in helping others navigate life after amputation.

The impact of Steve’s work is perhaps best reflected in the testimonials of those he served. Patients consistently praised the compassionate and comprehensive care they received at Shamrock Prosthetics, often highlighting the familial atmosphere Steve cultivated. One patient noted, “Shamrock Prosthetics has changed my life!! This place has the best staff and patient care… Our patients are family to us!!”

Steve Ehretsman’s legacy is one of transformation—turning personal tragedy into a beacon of hope for countless individuals. His unwavering dedication to the amputee community has left an indelible mark, and his vision will continue to guide Shamrock Prosthetics in the years to come. He is survived by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many lives he touched through his work. Steve’s life reminds us all of the power of resilience, the importance of purpose, and the profound impact one individual can have on the world.

For those who wish to honor Steve’s memory, Shamrock Prosthetics encourages contributions to organizations supporting amputees and advancements in prosthetic care, continuing the mission to which Steve dedicated his life.
