On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, a bank robbery in Florence, Alabama, culminated in a fatal officer-involved shooting, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Louis Michael Hill of Rogersville. The incident also left a Florence police officer and a bystander injured.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), law enforcement responded to reports of a bank robbery around 3 p.m. Deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Florence Police Department pursued Hill, whose vehicle became disabled during the chase. Attempting to commandeer another vehicle, Hill brandished a firearm and opened fire on the officers. The officers returned fire, fatally wounding Hill. Both the police officer and the bystander sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the exchange.
The injured bystander was identified as Grace McClusky, a firefighter with Center Star Fire/Rescue. McClusky had stopped to render aid at the scene, unaware of the ongoing police pursuit. She was struck by gunfire but is now recovering at home.
