On the morning of March 28, 2025, a fatal incident led to the complete closure of the southbound lanes of Mopac South (Loop 1) in Austin, Texas. At approximately 6:37 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) received reports of an object on the highway, which was later identified as the body of a deceased male who had been struck by at least one vehicle. The driver involved contacted 911 and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, prompting vehicular homicide detectives to actively investigate the situation. As a result, all southbound lanes of Mopac South were closed, causing significant traffic disruptions. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes, such as Interstate 35 or U.S. Highway 183, to navigate around the closure. The highway was expected to reopen by 10 a.m.
