It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Benton Gallagher, age 36, of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, a beloved former teacher at École Richard Martin Elementary School (ERMES). Benton left us on March 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration, passion for education, and an unwavering commitment to kindness that will resonate in the lives he touched.
Born on June 12, 1988, in Yarmouth, Benton was raised in a nurturing family that fostered his intellectual curiosity and love for learning. From a young age, he exhibited a keen interest in education, inspired by teachers who made learning an engaging and exciting adventure. Benton cherished his time in school, embracing every opportunity to immerse himself in projects and extracurricular activities that would shape his commitment to serving his community.
After graduating high school, Benton pursued higher education at Acadia University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education. It was during this time that he truly flourished, honing his teaching skills and cultivating a deep dedication to creating a positive learning environment for his future students. His enthusiasm for learning and genuine desire to make education impactful shone through as he developed meaningful relationships with peers and mentors alike.
Benton began his teaching career at École Richard Martin Elementary School (ERMES), where he quickly became a cherished member of the staff. Known for his energy and innovative approach to teaching, Benton captured the hearts of students and parents alike. His unique ability to make lessons both enjoyable and meaningful was evident in the way he infused creativity and hands-on activities into his curriculum. His students fondly remember his infectious laughter and warm demeanor, which transformed his classroom into a supportive and welcoming haven for learning.
Beyond academics, Benton was deeply committed to his students’ personal and social development.
