
Hightower High School Students Raniah Rowley and DeJon Tate Tragically Killed in Post-Prom Crash
The Hightower High School community is in mourning following the tragic deaths of seniors Raniah Rowley and DeJon Tate. The two students were involved in a fatal head-on collision in the early hours of April 28, 2025, shortly after attending their prom celebration in Houston.
According to reports, the accident occurred on a local highway when their vehicle collided with another, resulting in both students sustaining severe injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, both Raniah and DeJon succumbed to their injuries.
Raniah Rowley was remembered by her family as a vibrant and compassionate individual. Her grandmother, Tina Johnson Satterfield Thomas, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, expressing her deep sorrow. Her mother, Mynette Mallet, posted an emotional message, capturing the profound pain of losing her daughter.
DeJon Tate was described by his teacher as a source of inspiration, noting his resilience and joy. The teacher expressed the deep impact DeJon had on their life, stating, “He taught me so much about resilience and joy.” Classmates and community members have also shared tributes, highlighting both students’ vibrant personalities and positive impact on the school community.
In response to the tragedy, Hightower High School has made counseling services available to students and staff to help them cope with the loss. The school district is providing support to the grieving community during this difficult time.
