The Columbia Police Department is currently investigating the tragic murder of 22-year-old Logan Federico, which took place early Saturday morning on the 2700 block of Cypress Street. Logan Federico, originally from Waxhaw, North Carolina, had been visiting friends in Columbia that weekend. After spending time with his friends on Saturday night, Federico arrived at the home on Cypress Street around 3 a.m. Unfortunately, it was there that his life was tragically cut short.

According to authorities, Federico was shot in the chest by a suspect who had been burglarizing homes in the area. The individual responsible for this senseless act of violence has been identified as 30-year-old Andrew Dickey, a man who is now wanted by the Forest Acres Police Department.
The shooting of Federico appears to be a random act of violence, as police say Dickey was in the process of burglarizing homes when he encountered Federico.
After fatally shooting Federico, Dickey allegedly stole several items, including keys, credit cards, and firearms, before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle. He drove away from the Cypress Street area, heading toward West Columbia, where he embarked on what police are describing as a “shopping spree.”
Dickey used the stolen credit cards to make purchases and continued his reckless behavior as he fled further into the region. Dickey’s crime spree took him to Saluda County, where the stolen vehicle he was driving broke down.
Undeterred, he contacted a towing company to have his car towed to a residence in Gaston, South Carolina. It was at this point that authorities began to close in on him. As they tracked his movements, it became increasingly clear that Dickey was not going to stop his rampage anytime soon.
The situation took another violent turn on Sunday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., a resident of Lexington County reported seeing an individual fleeing the woods and driving a stolen car.
When authorities responded, they discovered that Dickey had allegedly broken into another home, and this time, he had set the residence on fire. It’s unclear what motivated this additional act of arson, but it was another sign of the chaos and destruction that Dickey had been causing in his wake.
Thankfully, Dickey’s criminal activities came to an end shortly after the fire. Law enforcement officers were able to apprehend him, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Dickey now faces a range of charges, including murder, burglary, theft, and arson. As the investigation continues, authorities are piecing together the full extent of his crimes, which have left a community grieving and fearful.
On Friday, Federico’s father, along with Columbia Police Chief Holbrook and Coroner Naida Rutherford, spoke at a press conference to address the tragic death of Logan Federico.
