
Gretchen Wilson, the Grammy-winning country artist known for hits like “Redneck Woman,” has opened up about a significant health challenge that nearly sidelined her career. In a recent interview, she revealed that she suffered a severe leg injury, resulting in a shattered leg and ankle. This injury left her wheelchair-bound for eight months and required an additional six months of recovery while still wearing a boot .
Despite the physical setbacks, Wilson chose to participate in Season 13 of The Masked Singer. She described the experience as grueling, involving long hours on her feet and challenging choreography. The physical demands were particularly daunting given her recent recovery, but she persevered, stating, “At the end of each day, I was just like, ‘Man, I made it through another day. I can keep doing this.’” Her determination paid off when she was crowned the winner of the season, performing under the “Pearl” costume .
Wilson’s journey to recovery was further complicated by long-term COVID-19 symptoms, including high blood pressure, shortness of breath, and asthma. These health issues required extensive medical attention and time away from the public eye. Reflecting on her challenges, she shared, “I just stayed away, figured it out. Like I said, it took a long time, but I finally got myself into a place where I was like, ‘Okay, I feel like I’m back.’” Her victory on The Masked Singer symbolizes a triumphant return to the stage after overcoming these significant obstacles .
Currently, Wilson is working on a reimagined version of her debut album, Here for the Party, and is set to appear in the upcoming series The Road, executive-produced by Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan .
