Brett Hinton, a 47-year-old tradesman and respected sound editor from Randwick, New South Wales, tragically passed away following a workplace accident on Wednesday afternoon. Hinton was operating a cherry picker on Darley Road when he came into contact with overhead power lines, resulting in a fatal electric shock.

Emergency services responded swiftly after colleagues on site immediately brought Hinton down from the elevated platform and administered CPR. Paramedics continued resuscitation efforts upon arrival and transported him to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

New South Wales Police have launched a formal investigation, establishing a crime scene to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. A full report will be prepared for the coroner, with SafeWork NSW also involved in the ongoing review of workplace safety protocols.

Hinton was employed by Ausgrid at the time of the accident. The company issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague, emphasizing their commitment to safety and cooperation with authorities to understand the cause of the tragedy.

The accident also caused temporary power outages in the Randwick area, with Ausgrid crews working throughout the evening to restore service and secure the site.
