A major vehicle accident with entrapment occurred this afternoon, May 29, 2025, on Old National Pike (Route 40) at Bowers Road in Frederick County, Maryland. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a collision involving one passenger car and one truck, with at least two individuals trapped inside their vehicles.

Initial calls came in at approximately 3:19 p.m., prompting a rapid response from local fire and rescue teams. Given the severity of the crash, two Maryland State Police medevac helicopters—Trooper 2 and Trooper 3—were requested to assist with transport. A landing zone was established at Frederick Towne Mall to accommodate the airlifts.

By 3:33 p.m., first responders successfully extricated one patient from the wreckage. Just 20 minutes later, at 3:53 p.m., a second patient was also freed. Both were in need of immediate medical care due to injuries sustained in the crash. The nature and extent of their injuries have not been publicly disclosed at this time.

Traffic has been heavily impacted as a result of the collision. Baltimore National Pike westbound remains partially closed, with both the left lane and left shoulder blocked to accommodate emergency operations. On the eastbound side, only the right lane and right shoulder remain open to traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while crews remain on scene for cleanup and investigation.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. No identities have yet been released, and further details regarding the victims’ conditions are expected once families have been notified.
