CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A tragic shooting late Thursday night has left the Charlotte community reeling after 15-year-old Syllavon was fatally shot at an apartment complex in northeast Charlotte. The incident, which occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Merrick Street, near North Tryon Street, is now under active investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) as a homicide.
Officers rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire and discovered Syllavon with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite efforts from paramedics and emergency responders, the young teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings suggest that gunfire was sprayed from outside into the apartment building, striking property and tragically ending Syllavon’s life. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not yet named any suspects.
CMPD’s Homicide Unit, along with crime scene investigators, Charlotte Fire Department, and medical personnel, spent hours at the scene collecting evidence and canvassing the area for potential leads.
The shocking loss of such a young life has sent waves of grief through the neighborhood. Friends, family members, and community leaders have begun gathering to remember Syllavon, describing him as a bright spirit whose life ended far too soon.
“This should never have happened. He was just a kid,” said one local resident, who added that the violence has left the community both fearful and angry.
Police are pleading for the public’s help, urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information to come forward. Tipsters can remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
As the investigation continues, Charlotte joins Syllavon’s family in mourning and in calling for an end to the senseless violence that continues to plague neighborhoods.
