FERGUSON, MO — The Ferguson community is in shock and mourning following the tragic death of 30-year-old Raven Richmond, who was fatally shot in her home on June 25, 2025. Authorities have confirmed that Raven was pregnant at the time, making this devastating loss even more heartbreaking.
Brandon R. Johnson, 39, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. According to a probable cause statement from the Ferguson Police Department, Johnson fatally shot Raven inside their shared residence on Windward Court. He later turned himself in to the St. Louis County Police Department, confessing to the crime and admitting to having shot Raven the previous day.
Police conducted a welfare check at the home after receiving Johnson’s confession, discovering Raven deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
A Family Shattered
Adding to the tragedy, family members revealed that Raven had recently shared the joyful news of her pregnancy with Johnson. Her hopes for motherhood were tragically cut short, silencing not just one life but two.
“This is not just a murder — it’s the destruction of a family, a future, and an innocent life that never had the chance to begin,” said a family friend. “Raven was full of light and hope for the future. This is a senseless tragedy.”
Charges and Confession
Following his confession, Johnson admitted to disposing of key evidence including the firearm used, his cell phone, and a knife, prompting additional charges. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney has charged Johnson with:
First-Degree Murder (Class A Felony)
Armed Criminal Action (Class U Felony)
Multiple counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence (Class E Felonies)
Johnson remains in custody as the investigation continues. It is not yet clear if charges related to the unborn child will be filed.
