DAYTON, OH — Heartbreak has engulfed the Dayton community following the tragic shooting death of 22-year-old Amadou Diallo early Monday morning, June 23, at a Speedway gas station near the University of Dayton. Dayton police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 12:09 a.m. at the Speedway located at 121 E. Stewart Street, a high-traffic area near East Stewart and Brown Streets. Lt. Eric Sheldon of the Dayton Police Department confirmed that officers found Diallo at the scene with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by medics, Diallo could not be saved.
