Emergency services were called to the scene near the Bradman Avenue boat ramp shortly after 3:30 p.m. following reports that a man had gone missing in the water.

According to witnesses, Marinis had been swimming with a group when he began struggling in the river’s strong current and disappeared beneath the surface. Bystanders attempted to assist but were unable to reach him in time due to the fast-moving waters.

Queensland Police confirmed that while a full investigation is ongoing, the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner. Officials noted that environmental conditions at the time — including shifting tides and limited visibility — may have contributed to the fatal outcome.

Friends and family have described Alexander as a vibrant, adventurous individual with a deep love for nature and a generous spirit. “He had a laugh that lit up the room and a heart that embraced everyone,” one close friend shared in an emotional tribute on social media.

Heartfelt messages and memories have continued to pour in, with many expressing shock and sorrow at the sudden loss.

Authorities are using the incident to remind the public of the dangers associated with swimming in natural waterways. They urge swimmers to stay vigilant and cautious, especially in unfamiliar or rapidly changing environments.

Alexander Marinis is survived by his parents, siblings, and a wide circle of friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Memorial details are expected to be announced in the coming days.
