A box truck crashed into a building and struck several pedestrians in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, injuring six people, including the driver. Authorities believe the incident was accidental and not intentional.
The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. near the intersection of Kneeland Street and Harrison Avenue. The yellow Penske rental truck overturned and became wedged between a streetlamp and a building façade. Firefighters extricated the trapped driver from the cab using specialized tools.
Among the injured, four individuals were transported to local hospitals, with two initially in critical condition. The driver’s condition later improved. Two others declined medical treatment at the scene.
Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox stated that the incident appears to be a “tragic accident” rather than an intentional act. Mayor Michelle Wu highlighted the shock of the event, noting the area’s bustling activity during lunchtime.
Penske, the truck rental company, confirmed that the vehicle was rented to a commercial trucking firm and is cooperating fully with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
