
Columbia Police Department investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding a fatal shooting discovered early Wednesday morning in the northern part of the city.
Authorities responded to a report of gunfire at approximately 6:30 a.m. in the 6300 block of North Main Street, the location of the Carolina Lodge motel.
Upon arrival, officers found a male victim lying unresponsive in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
In the hours following the incident, investigators began canvassing the surrounding area for potential surveillance footage and conducting interviews with individuals who were present at or near the scene at the time of the shooting.

Detectives are also working to establish a motive and identify any suspects involved.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
