A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning on Interstate 10 north of Tucson, resulting in the death of a pedestrian who was struck by multiple vehicles.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. near milepost 250, just north of the Marana area. Initial reports indicate that a male pedestrian was walking in the eastbound lanes of I-10 when he was hit by several vehicles. It remains unclear why the individual was on the freeway at the time.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the first reports, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities shut down all eastbound lanes of the I-10 in the area for several hours during the investigation, causing significant traffic delays for morning commuters. The lanes were reopened shortly before 10 a.m., but residual delays persisted throughout the late morning hours.

Investigators are currently working to determine the exact sequence of events and whether any of the drivers involved will face charges. As of now, none of the drivers stopped at the scene have been arrested or cited.

The AZDPS has urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area to contact authorities as they continue to piece together what led to the fatal accident.

This marks yet another pedestrian fatality on Arizona’s highways, raising concerns about the safety of both drivers and individuals on foot near major roadways. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
