Greenville, IL — The community of Greenville and the broader military family are mourning the passing of Colonel Carroll Gene Links Jr., a highly respected and decorated officer in the Illinois Army National Guard who served his country with honor and distinction for 30 years.
Colonel Links’s life of service included two deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, during which he demonstrated exceptional bravery and leadership. For his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat and the Bronze Star for heroic actions performed during ground operations.
Colonel Links leaves behind a proud legacy of dedication to duty, patriotism, and courage. His commitment to his fellow soldiers and to the United States will not be forgotten.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, located at 1000 Killarney Drive, Greenville, Illinois. A funeral service will follow immediately at 12:00 p.m., officiated by the Revs. Dee Armes and Tyson Graber.
Colonel Links will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at a later date.
