
SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI — A tense hostage situation unfolded today at Mercantile Bank on State Street, ending with the gunman confirmed dead and a female hostage safely escaping, officials reported.
The incident triggered a large-scale emergency response involving multiple agencies, including the FBI’s Emergency Support Team and hostage negotiators, Michigan State Police, Saginaw Township Police, Bridgeport Township Police, Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department, Midland Police Department SWAT, Saginaw City Police, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Saginaw Fire Department, and Mobile Medical Response.
Authorities have shut down State Street between Mitchell Street and Berberovich Drive as investigators secure the scene and collect evidence.
While details are still emerging, law enforcement sources confirmed the standoff ended with the suspect fatally shot, though it remains unclear if the suspect died by his own hand or was killed by officers. The female hostage, held during the standoff, escaped unharmed.
