
INDIO, Calif. — June 28, 2025 — A 25-year-old man is in custody following the fatal domestic violence attack of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Alexis Cano, in a shocking incident that has shaken the Coachella Valley community. The violent dispute unfolded Thursday night in an unincorporated area near Indio, and authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the homicide.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Thermal Station responded to reports of a possible homicide around 7:00 p.m. on June 26 at a residence located in the 8400 block of Manila Avenue, between Indio Boulevard and Indio Street.
When deputies arrived, they found Alexis Cano, of Indio, suffering from severe traumatic injuries. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have since confirmed that her death was the result of domestic violence.
Suspect Arrested in Murder Investigation
Following a swift investigation, authorities located and arrested Mario Morales Jr., 25, of Coachella, on Friday, June 27. He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of murder.
During the investigation, deputies also identified a second suspect: Juanna De Morales, 55, also of Coachella, who was arrested the previous day. She was booked on suspicion of accessory to murder, suggesting potential involvement in either concealing the crime or assisting after the fatal incident occurred.
Both individuals remain in custody as detectives continue their investigation.
