A respected figure in Iowa politics, Rocky De Witt first entered public service in 2016, winning the Republican nomination for the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors. His time on the board—where he later served as chairman—was characterized by a strong belief in fiscal responsibility, transparent governance, and limited government. He viewed elected office not as a position of power, but as a public trust, a responsibility he carried with humility and conviction.

After Iowa’s redistricting created new opportunities for representation, De Witt ran for and won the seat for Iowa Senate District 1, unseating a long-standing incumbent in a significant political victory. He quickly established himself in the Senate as a tireless defender of conservative values, individual liberty, and constitutional principles.

Among his most enduring contributions was championing the Two-Thirds Legislative Vote Requirement for Income Tax Increase Bills Amendment, which would require a supermajority in both legislative chambers to approve any increase in individual or corporate income taxes. That amendment, now set for a public vote in the November 3, 2026 General Election, reflects De Witt’s enduring commitment to protecting Iowa taxpayers.

Despite his battle with cancer, De Witt never wavered in his responsibilities. He continued to serve with resilience and dignity, embodying the principles he so passionately defended.

His nephew, Kolby DeWitt, reflected on Rocky’s legacy:

“The two positions Rocky held were honors that he did not take for granted. He understood he was a caretaker of those seats for the people of Iowa. I consider myself blessed to have walked alongside him during his public service journey.”

Jake Jungers, treasurer for De Witt’s Senate campaign, echoed those sentiments:

“Rocky was a fighter, a true winner, and a fierce defender of the Second Amendment. As a Life Member of the NRA, he didn’t just campaign with slogans—he led by principle and example.”

Throughout his life and career, Rocky L. De Witt was known for his quiet humility, steady leadership, and unwavering devotion to his constituents. Whether at the county or state level, he carried the weight of public service with seriousness, always striving to put people before politics.

His passing is not only a loss for Sioux City and Woodbury County, but for the entire state of Iowa. Rocky leaves behind a proud legacy—one that will continue to shape Iowa’s political landscape for years to come.

Rocky L. De Witt will be remembered as a principled lawmaker, a tireless advocate for freedom, and a servant leader whose life was guided by purpose and patriotism.
