In a tragic incident on March 17, 2025, Akron police discovered two individuals deceased in a suspected murder-suicide at a residence on South Highland Avenue. The victims were identified as 44-year-old Jessica Leigh Violand of Elyria and 26-year-old Elliot Hareem Altesa of Akron. Both suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head; Violand’s death was ruled a homicide, while Altesa’s was determined to be a suicide.

Prior to this incident, a 2024 Facebook post had raised concerns about Altesa’s behavior. The post described an unsettling encounter where Altesa allegedly appeared at a residence in Berea, Ohio, acting erratically, making derogatory remarks, and reciting Bible verses. The individual who shared the post noted that police were informed but could not take immediate action due to the absence of direct threats.
