Former NFL Defensive End Jimmy Wilkerson Passes Away at 43

Dallas, TX – January 2024 – The football world is in mourning following the sudden passing of Jimmy Wilkerson, a former standout defensive end for the Oklahoma Sooners and NFL veteran. Wilkerson, 43, reportedly died from a heart attack, leaving behind a
legacy of excellence in both college and professional football.

Wilkerson’s impressive collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma saw him become a defensive stalwart, earning All-Big XII honors with 130 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks over 38 games.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Wilkerson in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft, marking the beginning of his five-season tenure with the team. He proved to be a dependable and versatile presence on the defensive line, capable of excelling in both starting roles and rotational duties.

Wilkerson’s NFL career continued with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he signed a two-year contract in 2008. His standout performance during the 2009 season, which included a career-best 46 tackles and six sacks, was unfortunately cut short by a torn ACL.
