LOS ANGELES, CA — A chaotic series of events unfolded in South Los Angeles overnight after an officer-involved shooting was followed by a vehicle crashing into a mobile LAPD command post, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The incident began around 10:50 p.m. Saturday when officers were stationed near Avalon Boulevard and 42nd Place. According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, officers observed a suspect armed with a handgun attempting to cross the intersection.

“The suspect was armed with a handgun; at that time, there was an OIS [officer-involved shooting],” the LAPD said in a statement.

The suspect was shot by officers and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Police later discovered that the suspect had allegedly confronted a victim in a nearby alley and fired at least one shot into the air. The victim was not injured, and the suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.

As police continued their investigation into the early morning hours, another incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. A silver sedan traveling northbound on Avalon drove through police crime scene tape and crashed into the mobile LAPD command post.

According to Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Media Relations Division, several personnel were inside the command post at the time of the crash. One officer reported complaints of pain and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and fully cooperated with officers. Eisenman stated that alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash. It was not immediately clear whether the driver would face any charges or citations.

The LAPD continues to investigate both the officer-involved shooting and the subsequent crash, as residents of the South L.A. neighborhood grapple with the unsettling events of the night.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
