With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maddy Duval of Vankleek Hill on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the young age of 16. A devoted daughter, sister, granddaughter, teammate, and friend, Maddy was a force to be reckoned with—in life and on the ice. Known for her straight-forward nature, fierce loyalty, and quick wit, she made an unforgettable impact on everyone who knew her.
Maddy leaves behind her loving parents, Kim Howes and Sylvain Duval, as well as her cherished sisters, Katty, Emmy, Emilie and Genevieve. She was the adored granddaughter of Monique and Lyman Howes.
She will be deeply missed by her uncle Kenny (Alison) and her cousins, Blake and Taylor, her best friend and boyfriend Brayden as well as many friends and teammates.
Maddy was a passionate hockey player who begun playing at only 5 years old. She later specialized as a goalie and was currently playing for the Clarence-Rockland Girls U-18 hockey team but Maddy’s heart will always be with her home association, The Glengarry Highlanders where she played with them for 9 seasons. She was the kind of goalie every team dreams of—focused, tough, and unshakable in the crease.
Beyond hockey, Maddy found joy in the simple things: coloring, building with LEGO, spending time at the family cottage and she loved her Mémère’s lasagna. She was deeply loyal to her close circle of friends, always there with unwavering support and a quick remark to lighten the mood and always loved a good debate, always ready to stand her ground with sharp reasoning.
A celebration of Maddy’s life will be held on Saturday March 22nd from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Vankleek Hill Arena upstairs hall, 36 Mill Street East. Join us for a memorial skate from 5 to 6 p.m. to honour her love for the game. Bring your skates and celebrate her memory.
