Originally from Camden, S.C., Mary was a powerhouse in the legal and lobbying community. She served as the top lobbyist and general counsel for Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, the state’s largest health insurance provider.
Her leadership, expertise, and advocacy helped shape significant health care policies and legislation, earning her widespread respect among lawmakers and industry professionals alike.
Beyond her impressive professional accomplishments, Mary was the beloved daughter of Tom Mullikin, a veteran military leader who was recently appointed as the director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).
Her father, devastated by her sudden passing, shared his heartbreak in an email to close friends and family, stating, “My life will be forever changed. She was my heart. Watching her die is unexplainable. Giving your child her last rites is something I pray you will never experience.”
