Ambushed While Responding to a Call
The violent incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. on June 26 in the 2200 block of N. 24th Street. Officers Kendall Corder, 32, and Christopher McCray, 29, were responding to a Priority 1 call regarding a shooting when they were ambushed by a gunman as they exited their vehicle in a nearby alley.

Authorities have identified the shooter as Tremaine Jones, who allegedly opened fire on the officers without warning. Both officers were struck multiple times and were unable to return fire.

Injuries and Recovery
Officer Corder suffered a gunshot wound to the upper arm, with a round entering his chest cavity and causing serious trauma to his heart. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He remains in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Officer McCray was hit in the foot and back, and is recovering as he awaits surgery to repair his foot.

Despite the life-threatening nature of their injuries, both officers are expected to recover—a fact that police officials say is nothing short of miraculous.

“A Calculated and Deliberate Attack”
Law enforcement leaders are calling the shooting a targeted and unprovoked ambush on uniformed officers who were simply doing their jobs.

“This could have easily turned into a double funeral,” one police spokesperson stated. “This was not just a random act—it was a calculated and deliberate attack on public servants.”

Ongoing Investigation
Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the attack. While Jones has no prior felony or misdemeanor convictions, officials are probing whether he has any ties to recent criminal activity or gang affiliations in the area.

The Milwaukee Police Department, along with local and federal agencies, continues to investigate. A press conference is expected once formal charges are filed.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information related to the shooting to contact Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS (8477) or to submit a tip anonymously online.

Community and National Support
News of the ambush has reverberated far beyond Milwaukee, with police departments and community leaders from across Wisconsin and the nation expressing support for the wounded officers and condemning the violence.

Local residents have begun organizing community vigils and support efforts for the officers and their families. A fundraising effort for medical expenses and recovery costs is expected to launch in the coming days.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers and underscores the need for continued support and vigilance in protecting those who protect the community.
