LONG BEACH, Calif. — A 27-year-old motorcyclist was killed late Thursday night in Long Beach after his bike clipped a pickup truck, causing him to lose control and crash, authorities confirmed Friday.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:25 p.m. on Redondo Avenue as the motorcyclist, riding a 2023 Yamaha, was heading northbound. Police say he side-swiped a pickup truck being driven by a 63-year-old man from Lomita.
“The collision caused the motorcycle rider to lose control, and he then collided with the curb,” an LBPD statement said. “The motorcycle rider was then ejected.”
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but the rider, a Long Beach resident, succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Police noted that excessive speed on the part of the motorcyclist is being considered as a potential factor in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355.
As the community mourns this tragic loss, officials continue to emphasize the importance of safe driving practices, especially at night and on high-traffic roads.
