A member of the school’s robotics team, Neil had dreams of pursuing a career in computer science or aerospace engineering. His teachers often spoke of his curiosity, work ethic, and willingness to help others understand difficult concepts. Neil’s future was full of promise.

More than just a student, Neil was a vibrant soul who brought warmth and joy to every room he entered. He was quick to offer a smile, a helping hand, or a joke to lighten the mood.

His sense of humor, intelligence, and quiet confidence made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. Whether it was tutoring classmates, participating in group projects, or volunteering in the community, Neil approached every task with heart and sincerity.

Neil was also an avid reader, music lover, and video game enthusiast. He especially loved science fiction and fantasy novels, spending hours immersed in the imaginative worlds of authors like Isaac Asimov and Brandon Sanderson.

His Spotify playlists were a reflection of his eclectic taste, ranging from indie rock to lo-fi hip hop to classical scores from his favorite films. In his free time, Neil enjoyed biking along the trails near his home, sketching in his notebook, and building computers from scratch. His talents were varied, and his passions were as deep as they were wide.

At home, Neil was a devoted son and brother. He shared a close bond with his parents and younger sister, often playing board games with them, helping with homework, or simply enjoying quiet family evenings.

His family described him as a thoughtful, responsible, and loving young man who never failed to make them proud. Neil’s presence at home was comforting and constant—he was a grounding force for those closest to him.

His friends remember Neil as someone who never hesitated to be there when it counted. He was the kind of person who would stay on the phone for hours just to listen, who remembered birthdays, who always knew the right thing to say when someone was having a tough day. To his peers, he was not only a friend but a confidant and a role model.

The suddenness of Neil’s passing has sent shockwaves through his school and neighborhood. Grief counselors have been made available at South County High School, and students and faculty have begun to organize a memorial to honor Neil’s life and legacy.

There is talk of creating a scholarship or fund in his name, aimed at supporting young minds with a passion for technology—something Neil would have deeply appreciated.

A funeral service for Neil will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at National Funeral Home, located at 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.

Family, friends, classmates, and community members are welcome to attend and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, the Gavri family encourages donations to organizations that support STEM education or youth mental health services.

As his community mourns this devastating loss, Neil Gavri will be remembered not only for what he accomplished in his 17 years but for the kindness and love he showed every day.

His spirit lives on in the lives he touched and in the memories that will be cherished forever. Though his time here was far too short, Neil’s light will never be forgotten.
