Authorities report that the shooting occurred shortly after midnight in a residential neighborhood long plagued by gun violence. Upon arrival, officers found three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Lazarvis, known affectionately as “Zay,” was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Family, friends, and neighbors are devastated by the loss of a young life filled with promise. Just months away from starting his senior year of high school, Lazarvis was known for his big heart, love of music and basketball, and dreams of college. “He was always looking out for his little brother and helping his grandma,” shared a neighbor. “He brought laughter and light to everyone around him.”

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and it has not been confirmed whether Lazarvis was the intended target or caught in a larger conflict. No arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone with information to step forward.

Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong expressed condolences to the Brown family and pledged a thorough investigation. “A child should never lose their life to violence. We are committed to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice.”

Local community leaders and activists are renewing calls for stronger efforts to combat youth violence and to create safe environments for Oakland’s young residents. Vigils honoring Lazarvis are planned, and a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses and support during this heartbreaking time.

As Oakland mourns yet another young life lost to gun violence, Lazarvis Brown will be remembered not for his tragic death, but for the vibrant spirit, ambition, and kindness he shared with all who knew him.

Rest in peace, Lazarvis “Zay” Brown. Your community will never forget you.
