CULVER CITY, Calif. — A tragic accident early Friday morning claimed the life of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on a busy freeway transition ramp in Culver City, causing significant traffic delays during the morning commute.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m. on the transition road from the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway to the westbound Marina (90) Freeway. The pedestrian was hit by an Infiniti sedan under circumstances that are still under investigation.

Culver City Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead at 4:42 a.m. Authorities have not yet released the person’s name, age, or gender pending notification of next of kin.

The collision prompted a full closure of the transition road, and a SigAlert was issued shortly after the crash. The incident caused a major traffic backup, with congestion stretching on the southbound 405 Freeway as far as the Venice Boulevard exit during peak commuting hours.

Investigators are working to determine why the pedestrian was on the freeway transition ramp and whether other factors contributed to the fatal collision. No additional details about the driver or possible charges have been released at this time.

CHP is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact their West Los Angeles office.

As the investigation continues, authorities are reminding motorists to remain alert, especially during early morning and low-light hours when visibility is reduced.
