FAMILY FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST SLEEP NUMBER AFTER 80-YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER TRAPPED IN BED DIES
A lawsuit has been filed against Sleep Number and its manufacturer, Leggett & Platt, by the family of Rosalind Walker, an 80-year-old grandmother who died after becoming trapped in her Sleep Number bed for two days.
According to reports, on March 1, 2023, Walker became pinned between her bed and the wall of her bedroom when the Sleep Number bed lowered itself without warning. Emergency responders were able to free Walker from the bed two days later, and she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Walker was later transferred to a rehab clinic and eventually placed in hospice care in her home, where she passed away.
The lawsuit, filed by Walker’s daughter Angela Moan, alleges that Sleep Number designed and sold a bed without adequate instructions or cautionary language to alert users of the risk of becoming trapped. The suit also claims that the bed did not have an appropriate release mechanism to allow Walker to free herself.
The family is seeking compensation for Walker’s injuries, medical bills exceeding $25,000, and damages for her suffering and death.
A spokesperson for Sleep Number expressed condolences to the family but declined to comment on the pending litigation.
