On Monday, March 17, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in James City County, Virginia, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Sarah Jones Mazariegos of Williamsburg. At approximately 4:30 p.m., Mazariegos was driving her white 2019 Toyota Highlander when she attempted to cross the railroad tracks at a private road crossing near Peach Street and Peninsula Street.
According to preliminary investigations, she failed to stop at the posted sign and did not yield to an oncoming Amtrak train carrying 90 passengers. The train collided with her vehicle, and Mazariegos was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported among the train passengers.
