Los Angeles County, CA – June 30, 2025 — After a week-long intensive search, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday it is scaling back operations in the effort to locate 60-year-old Monica Reza, who went missing while hiking along the Angeles Crest Highway.
Reza was last seen at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, at the 6000 Foot Gate, a remote section of the mountainous area. Authorities say she was wearing a red long-sleeve shirt, green hiking pants, and hiking shoes at the time of her disappearance. She is described as white, 4 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 101 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes.
Crescenta Valley Station Acting Captain Ryan A. Vienna emphasized the extensive nature of the search efforts.
“An extraordinary search was initiated that not only involved our Los Angeles County Search and Rescue teams, but numerous resources from throughout the state leveraging local, state, and federal assets,” Vienna said. “The use of forensic technology, photography, airships, canines, and other specialized tools were utilized in this effort, leaving nearly no available resource untapped.”
Despite the scale of the operation, Reza has yet to be located. The Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Missing Persons Unit detectives will continue to follow up as new data and leads become available.
Captain Vienna expressed sympathy for Reza’s loved ones and thanked members of the public who volunteered to help. He also urged caution regarding civilian search efforts.
“Our hearts go out to Monica’s family, friends, coworkers, and the community who have shown great concern for her disappearance,” he said. “It is important to understand the area Monica went missing in can be highly technical and difficult for inexperienced hikers. Given this is an ongoing investigation, we would ask the public to avoid actively searching this area. On behalf of the family, we are conveying their request for privacy at this time.”
The Sheriff’s Department has not released information about Reza’s hiking experience or her familiarity with the rugged terrain.
