It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Susan O’Sullivan, a devoted mother, loving wife, cherished daughter, and dear friend. Susan, 41, from Boherbue in North Cork, lost her life in a devastating head-on collision on the N72 Mallow-Killarney road on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
She was returning home with her two young children after a heartfelt visit to her mother on Mother’s Day when the tragic accident occurred. Susan’s passing has left an unimaginable void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the entire community.
A woman known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family, Susan touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was one defined by devotion—to her children, to her family, and to making the world a brighter place with her gentle presence.
A beloved mother, Susan’s two children were the light of her life. She was deeply devoted to them, always ensuring they felt loved, nurtured, and encouraged to explore the world.
Her last moments were spent making joyful memories with them, taking them to an adventure play center before tragedy struck on their way home. While her children sustained serious injuries, they are currently receiving medical care and are expected to recover.
Susan was a treasured daughter and sister, growing up in a close-knit family of five sisters and one brother. The O’Sullivan family has endured profound loss, having lost Susan’s only brother just a year and a half ago. Her parents, now faced with another heartbreaking tragedy, are surrounded by love and support from their extended family, friends, and the compassionate community of Boherbue.
In 2018, Susan married the love of her life, Gavin, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and unconditional love. Their young son and daughter, aged eight and five, will forever cherish the memories of their incredible mother, whose love and guidance will continue to shape their lives.
The news of Susan’s passing has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving neighbors and friends devastated by the loss of such a kind-hearted and vibrant soul. Local priest Fr. Jim Keneally, who has been supporting the grieving family, described her as a “lovely, lovely girl” and expressed the community’s deep sorrow.
The tragic accident also claimed the life of Mary Coughlan, 62, from Mitchelstown. Both families now face the unimaginable pain of losing their loved ones in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner.
Local officials, including Councillors Liam Madden and Bernard Moynihan, have expressed their condolences, acknowledging the profound grief felt throughout the area. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety, as the community comes together to support the grieving families.
Susan’s legacy will be one of love, strength, and kindness. Her unwavering devotion to her family, her generous spirit, and the joy she brought to those around her will never be forgotten. Her children, her husband, her parents, her sisters, and all who loved her will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days. The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, support, and condolences from the community and beyond. As they navigate this painful loss, they ask for privacy and prayers during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Susan O’Sullivan. Your love, laughter, and light will forever be cherished by those who were lucky enough to know you.
