According to officials, the Paducah Police Department responded around 3:42 a.m. on May 3 to a report from Western Baptist Hospital, where Scott had arrived with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting occurred near the intersection of Rosewood and Old Mayfield Road, a typically quiet area now marked by crime scene tape and community concern.

Due to the severity of Scott’s injuries, he was airlifted for advanced care. Authorities have not released further updates on his condition, though he continues to fight for his life.

An intensive investigation, spearheaded by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, rapidly led detectives to identify 35-year-old Jeremiah Brinson as the primary suspect. Brinson was arrested without incident at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Monday, just two days after the shooting. He was taken into custody while exiting a residence located at 5252 Old Mayfield Road, the same neighborhood as the shooting scene.

Upon his arrest, Brinson was found with a loaded, stolen 9mm handgun and a small amount of cocaine in his possession. His apprehension prompted officers to execute a search warrant on the residence, which uncovered a cache of illegal items, including:

A second loaded handgun (.45 caliber)

Cocaine

Fentanyl pills

Drug paraphernalia

Two more individuals at the residence were arrested:

Clinton L. Brewer, 44, a convicted felon previously paroled from a life sentence for murder and robbery.

Zoey R. Smith, 23, a McCracken County resident.

Both Brinson and Brewer, as convicted felons, are legally barred from owning or possessing firearms. Their violations, combined with the evidence recovered, point to a potentially broader network of criminal activity, including drug trafficking and firearm violations.
