Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Vancleave Motorcyclist on I-10; Authorities Searching for Two Vehicles

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities are actively searching for two drivers involved in a deadly hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of 62-year-old Michael Urbani, a Vancleave resident, on the evening of Wednesday, June 25.

The tragic incident occurred around 8:48 p.m. on Interstate 10 westbound, between mile markers 68 and 69. According to investigators, Urbani was riding his motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a black Chevrolet Malibu, causing him to be thrown onto the roadway. In a devastating turn of events, an all-white 18-wheeler, also heading westbound, ran over Urbani, who was already down on the pavement.

Neither driver stopped at the scene. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Urbani was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vehicles Sought
Law enforcement is now seeking help from the public to locate the two vehicles involved:

A black Chevrolet Malibu (license plate unknown)

An all-white 18-wheeler, make and model unknown

Authorities believe both vehicles fled westbound on I-10 immediately following the collision.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), in conjunction with local law enforcement, is urging anyone who was driving in the area, saw the crash, or has dashcam footage from I-10 near the time of the incident to come forward.

“This is a heartbreaking situation,” an MHP official said. “Mr. Urbani lost his life in a senseless act, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure those responsible are held accountable. But we need the public’s help.”
