
Myrtle Beach, SC — A fatal shooting late Friday night at Peaches Corner, a cherished Myrtle Beach landmark operating since 1937, has left the community shaken. One man, identified as Grayson Meyers, was killed, and a second person injured in the incident, which remains under active police investigation.
According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, the violence erupted around 11:15 p.m. inside the restaurant near 9th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard, following a confrontation between Meyers and 17-year-old Peaches Corner employee Evany McCray of Conway. During the altercation, McCray allegedly drew a firearm and fired inside the crowded establishment, fatally wounding Meyers.
A bystander crossing the street outside was struck by a stray bullet and sustained injuries. The condition of this second victim has not yet been released.
McCray was swiftly apprehended at the scene and charged as an adult with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a person under 18.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the dispute, and detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and eyewitness statements to understand the events leading to the shooting.
Peaches Corner, known for its longstanding family-friendly atmosphere and deep roots in the Myrtle Beach community, has never before experienced such violence in its more than 80 years of operation. The tragedy has sent waves of sorrow through locals, many expressing shock and condolences to Meyers’ family.
The restaurant issued a brief statement mourning the loss and confirming cooperation with law enforcement.
