A University of South Carolina (USC) student tragically lost their life following a collision with a pickup truck at the intersection of Assembly and Blossom streets on April 2, 2025. The student was operating a motorcycle when the accident occurred and was subsequently transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. The Columbia Police Department has not yet released the student’s identity.

According to reports, the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene on foot along with other occupants. Authorities later apprehended the driver, who now faces charges including hit-and-run resulting in death, failure to render aid, and driving without a license. The Columbia Police Department has not disclosed the driver’s name or commented on the cause of the collision.
