East Hollywood, CA — Authorities have identified the man fatally shot by Los Angeles police during an early-morning confrontation in East Hollywood as Victor Manuel Carillo, 27. The deadly incident unfolded on Thursday, June 19, and has since sparked an official investigation by LAPD’s Force Investigation Division.

According to officials, the incident began around 4:00 a.m. when officers from the LAPD’s Rampart Division responded to a call about a possible burglary at an apartment complex located on the 400 block of North Alexandria Avenue. When police arrived, they encountered a man — later identified as Carillo — who allegedly had broken into a residential unit and was acting aggressively.

LAPD reports that Carillo began throwing pieces of lumber at responding officers and then armed himself with a knife. As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, Carillo reportedly advanced toward them with the weapon in hand. Fearing for their safety and that of nearby residents, officers opened fire. Carillo was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed Carillo’s identity on Friday. Additional information regarding his background, including any prior criminal history or mental health concerns, has not been released.

No officers were injured in the encounter. The LAPD stated that body-worn camera footage was captured and will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The footage is expected to be released to the public in accordance with department policy, pending further review.

The department emphasized that its Force Investigation Division, along with the District Attorney’s Office, will conduct parallel reviews to determine whether the officers’ use of force was consistent with policy and legal standards.

The incident has raised concerns among some East Hollywood residents who were awakened by the sound of gunfire in the early morning hours. Community leaders are urging transparency and accountability as the investigation proceeds.
