SNOW HILL, MD — The quiet town of Snow Hill is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of one of its own after 69-year-old Dehart Herbert Lamb was fatally struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning on Snow Hill Road (Route 12) near Carmean Road.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene shortly after 4:20 a.m., following reports of a pedestrian collision. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that Lamb had been walking along the roadway when he was struck. Despite immediate response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation. Early findings suggest that impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

By 5:30 a.m., the response had expanded to include Pocomoke City Police, Snow Hill Police, and the Maryland State Police, the latter of which has taken the lead in the ongoing investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours as authorities processed the scene, reopening to traffic shortly after 10:20 a.m.

Lamb, a longtime resident of Snow Hill, is being remembered by friends and neighbors as a kind and familiar presence in the community. News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of grief and condolences, with many expressing shock over the heartbreaking incident.

“This is a terrible loss for our town,” one resident shared. “Mr. Lamb was well known in the area, and it’s hard to imagine something like this happening so close to home.”

Officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Maryland State Police as the investigation continues.
